Leaderprojekt “Geoparksinriktad guideutbildning”

The project aims to develop a guide education programme to actively promote sustainable tourism and management of the geological natural values in the area, and to be a place for people to meet.

Guideutbildningen kommer att ha 10 platser och vi kommer under våren 2025 erbjuda utbildningstillfällen. När utbildningen är genomförd kommer guiderna att finnas här på vår hemsida som “rekommenderade guider” med kontaktuppgifter och eventuella paketerbjudanden.

The education provides an introduction to the Geopark and ready-made concepts for themed guided tours in the Indalsälven Geopark, based on ‘Interpretation – communication that makes a difference’, a handbook for nature and cultural heritage guides. The aim is to engage and inspire those who take part in the programme to think, reflect and develop their own understanding of what is being communicated. We also want to prepare the guides for the business opportunities that the Geopark can create for them, so that we can strengthen the local tourism industry!

We want the project to increase knowledge about nature, culture and geology, instil pride in our region and promote greater cooperation.

Geoturism i mitten

The project "Geoturism i mitten" aims to strengthen knowledge about geology in Jämtland, Härjedalen and Tröndelag, thereby helping to create better conditions for the tourism industry on both sides of the border.

There are many places where geology tells a story that is particularly interesting, both for understanding the history of the Earth and the history of humankind. In many places, the geology is so remarkable that it could form the basis for tourist attractions.

In the project, Geoturism i mitten, the Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU), Tröndelag Reiseliv AS, Jämtland-Härjedalen Turism, Geopark Indalsälven and the Geological Survey of Norway (NGU) will work together to raise awareness of geology and how it can be used in the tourism industry.

The work will form the basis for creating sustainable tourism and increased hospitality on both sides of the border. The business community will have better conditions for offering experiences in geotourism, while the local population and visitors will be able to access information that increases their knowledge of the importance of geology. An important part of the work will be the Sami perspective on various geological sites.

The project is funded by Interreg Sweden-Norway, together with Region Jämtland Härjedalen and Tröndelag County Council.

Implementation

Between 2024 and 2027, a large number of geologically interesting sites will be documented through field surveys and made available in the cross-border map viewer on the SGU and NGU websites. Of these, ten sites in Norway and Sweden will be packaged and marketed as geotourism experiences.

To increase knowledge about both geology and geotourism, we will arrange a series of knowledge-enhancing webinars, workshops and site visits during the various stages of the project. A model for knowledge exchange within geotourism will be developed in order to offer a sustainable and exciting experience for both visitors and the local community.

Landsbyggdspotten “Geopark 2.0 hållbar tillväxt och marknadsföring”

The project aims to organise and conduct seminars and workshops with entrepreneurs for the development of products/services and payment options with the aim of improving revenue levels for participating companies and enhancing their market profile. The project aims to conduct targeted marketing communications to selected target groups in order to increase awareness of the geopark and increase the number of potential visitors.

We want to create sustainable development for Geopark Indalsälven and achieve a sustainable increase in revenue levels and an improved market profile for companies operating within the geopark area.

Earlier project for the establishment of the geopark

May 2020 startade ett projekt för att etablera en geopark i Ragunda, Geopark Indalsälven, under ledning av Peter Ladan. Finansiärer var Tillväxtverket och Världsarv Ragundadalen AB.

Projektet iordningställde över 30 geologiska och natur- och kulturhistoriska besöksplatser i området kring Ragundadalen, från Stugun i väster till Bispgården i öster.

Under åren 2021-2023 hade projektet ovärderlig hjälp av drygt 30 personer som stod utanför arbetslivet. Personerna organiserades i så kallade Naturnära jobbprojekt som Länsstyrelsen Jämtlands län finansierade.

Deltagarna i Naturnära jobb-projekten röjde sly, tog ned träd samt byggde bänkar, bord, skyltar och spänger. De installerade ledstänger av rep, gjorde illustrationer över parkens hotade djur och växter samt fotograferade besöksplatser. Erfarna handledare gav dem nödvändig utbildning för att kunna utföra dessa uppgifter och annan träning som sammantaget stärkte deras möjligheter att få varaktigt arbete. Efter Naturnära jobb-projektens avslut fick ungefär 15 av deltagarna fast anställning vid olika företag.

January 2022 utsåg Sveriges Geologiska Undersökning, SGU, Geopark Indalsälven till Swedish geopark. Vår geopark var då den andra svenska geoparken i Sverige.

Hösten 2022 fick vi ett fint internationellt pris för de lervarv som man kan se vid besöksmålet Remmarna. Det var International Union of Geological Sciences, IUGS, som utnämnde Ragundas lervarv till 1 av 100 geologiska arv i världen av stor betydelse för utvecklingen av geologisk vetenskap och förståelsen för jordens historia. IUGS är en av världens största vetenskapliga organisationer. De representerar över en miljon geovetare från mer än 120 medlemsländer.

17 June 2023 invigdes geoparken i Döda fallet med bland andra Marita Ljung, landshövding i Jämtlands län, Olov Amelin, landsantikvarie och chef för museet Jamtli och Mikael Westin, kommunalråd i Ragunda som talare.

År 2023 utsåg Jämtland Härjedalen Turism Geopark Indalsälven AB till Årets turismföretagare i Jämtland.
