Part 3 of our 10 autumn tips

Ragunda Old Church is a well-preserved church built in the early 16th century. It was constructed using blocks of various types of rock from the Ragunda area. The exposed walls reveal red Ragunda granite and dark gabbro, among other types of rock. Rapakivi granite is also clearly visible in the walls. The church was originally located on the shore of Lake Ragunda, which meant that visitors to the church and its services could reach it by boat across the lake. After Lake Ragunda was drained in 1796, the Indalsälven river dug its way into the former lakebed, and the water level here is about 35 metres lower than the old shoreline. The church offers a beautiful view of the river, Kullstaberget and Vättberget (which looks like a sleeping mammoth).
