Today we had the pleasure of welcoming Jerker Bexelius from Gaaltije, and together we visited several of the geopark’s sites. This meeting marks the beginning of an exciting collaboration to highlight the Sami perspective at the geopark’s visitor sites. The collaboration is part of the project Geoturism i mitten, which aims to find new ways of making geology, nature and culture more engaging and accessible for children and families. By integrating Sami culture into this work, we can create a richer visitor experience.

Gaaltije is a South Sami cultural centre and resource hub with a strong focus on culture, language, livelihoods and community. Its mission is to strengthen the position of the South Sami people in society and safeguard the culture, while also serving as a creative environment for new ideas. This makes the collaboration both valuable and essential for the success of the project.
